Purpose:
To show the evolution of Practice Styles and Preferences of Dutch Cataract and Refractive Surgeons over the last 20 years
Setting:
VU academic medical hospital , Amsterdam , The The Netherlands
Methods:
A written questionaire was sent to all registered Cataract and Refractive surgeons in The The Netherlands
Results:
A slow increase of surgeries per month.Flacs numbers very low. Topical anesthesia around 80%.Clear corneal incisions around 35%. Phaco technique 80% D/C.Standard IOL Hydrofobic Acrylic.(92%). Toric IOL use around 4%, Multifocal around 2.5% and Multi/Toric around 1%.Cefuroxime use over 65% routinely and around 25% only in high risk patients.Endophthalmitis and Dropped nucleus rates low.Refractive Surgery numbers stable and over 90% of Cataract surgeons use the National Cataract Register
Conclusions:
Valuable information on trends in Dutch Cataract and Refractive Surgery over the last 20 years is given.
