Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate eye registration success, data and effect on the clinical outcomes in the treatment of myopic astigmatism using Schwind Amaris 1050RS and Wavelight EX-500

Setting:

Alexandria University and ICare Hospital Alexandria EGYPT

Methods:

Retrospective study. Subjects with myopic astigmatism seeking laser vision correction were treated using either the Schwind Amaris 1050RS (169 eyes) or Wavelight EX-500 (162 eyes). Data of eye registration during treatment were evaluated. Post-operative visual and refractive outcomes were studied.

Results:

The 2 groups were similar preoperatively in the refraction and visual acuity. With the Schwind Amaris, eye registration was successful in 87.6% of eyes (mean -0.37±2.94) versus 85% of eyes with the EX500 (mean -0.09±4.08). At 3 months postoperatively, mean UCVA was 1.09 ± 0.16 in the Schwind group compared to 0.99 ± 0.21 in the EX500 group. In eyes that had treatment with the Schwind Amaris, mean sphere and cylinder were 0.00 D ± 0.49 and -0.38 D ± 0.24 respectively, versus 0.17 D ± 0.5 and -0.43 D ± 0.24.

Conclusions:

TheSchwind Amaris 1050RS and Wavelight EX-500 machines are equally effective in treating myopic astigmatism. The eye registration process seems to be more successful using the Schwind Amaris 1050RS system.
