Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate risk factors for the late dislocation of IOL- in-the-bag.
Setting:
Helsinki University Hospital, Helsinki, Finland
Methods:
In this retrospective study the medical records of patients who underwent a surgery for in-the-bag IOL subluxation, between 1997 and 2016 at the Helsinki University Hospital, was analyzed. 536 patients and 598 eyes were included in the study. We excluded all the traumatic and iatrogen dislocations. The data collected included sex, age, interval between cataract operation and dislocation, preoperative condition as PEX, glaucoma, axial length, ocular medication, uveitis and previous surgery or trauma.
Results:
Pseudoexfoliation was detected in 303 eyes prior to cataract surgery and in 375 eyes at the time that dislocation was observed. 143 eyes had capsular glaucoma. 19 patients and 20 eyes have had uveitis. 43 eyes were found to be phacodonetic before cataract surgery, 93 eyes had a CTR implanted. Only one patient had a connective tissue disease, CREST. Nine eyes and six persons with Retinitis pigmentosa underwent surgery for in-the-bag IOL dislocation. 166 eyes had an YAG-laser capsulotomy done for posterior capsular opaficity.
Conclusions:
Pseudoexfoliation was the major cause of late in-the-bag IOL dislocation
