Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the accuracy of 7 formulas (Barrett Universal II, Haigis, Hoffer Q, HillRBF, Holladay 1, SRK/T, and T2) calculating the power of the quadrifocal AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® intraocular lens (IOL).

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany.

Methods:

The study comprised 75 eyes of 38 patients having cataract surgery with insertion of a quadrifocal lens (Panoptix, Alcon) over 15 months. Preoperative biometry measurements were obtained from an IOLMaster 500. Optimized IOL constants were calculated to reduce the mean refractive prediction error. Differences in mean absolute errors between the formulas were evaluated.

Results:

The formulas were ranked by the mean absolute refractive prediction error as follows: HillRBF (0.274 D), Haigis (0.276 D), T2 (0.295 D), Barrett Universal II (0.298 D), Holladay 1 (0.328 D), SRK/T (0.342 D), and Hoffer Q (0.347 D). The differences in absolute errors between the formulas were significant (P < 0.0001).

Conclusions:

The HillRBF and Haigis formula performed very well and had the lowest prediction error and are recommended for iol calculation when implanting a multifocal lens.
