Assessment of corneal parameters using IOLMaster 700: repeatability and agreement with Scheimpflug tomography and specular miscoscopy

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate repeatability and comparability of central corneal thickness (CCT) and keratometry measurements obtained using a swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) biometer (IOLMaster 700, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Jena, Germany), a Scheimpflug system (Sirius, CSO, Florence, Italy) and a noncontact specular miscroscope (Cellcheck CC-7000, Konan Medical Inc., Nishinomiya, Japan).

Methods:

One hundred twenty-two eyes from 61 patients scheduled for cataract surgery were enrolled in this study. CCT (IOLMaster 700, Sirius, Cellcheck CC-7000) and keratometry readings (IOLMaster 700 and Sirius) were measured. For statistical analysis, the corneal spherocylinder was converted into power vectors (J0, J45). Repeatability was assessed by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Agreement of measurements between the devices was evaluated by the Bland-Altman method.

Results:

The analysis of CCT data of IOLMaster 700, Sirius and Cellcheck CC-7000 showed high repeatability. The ICCs ranged from 0.957 to 0.989. CCT measurements were statistically significant different between all instruments (p<0,001). The analysis of keratometry readings (J0 and J45) of IOLMaster 700 and Sirius showed high repeatability with ICCs ranging from 0.962 to 0.991. J0 and J45 showed no significant difference between IOLMaster 700 and Sirius. These results were in accordance with Bland-Altman plots.

Conclusions:

CCT and keratometry measurements obtained by the analysed instruments showed good repeatability. With the exception of CCT measurements, in clinical practice keratometry measurement taken by Sirius and IOLMaster devices showed good agreement and may be used interchangeably in patients with cataracts.
