Abstract Details
Purpose:
Estimation of SMILE operation functional results in correction of myopia and myopic astigmatism in the eyes with superficial corneal opacities in the optic zone.
Setting:
IRTC Eye Microsurgery Center Ekaterinburg, Russia
Methods:
Sixteen patients (16 eyes) have been operated. In all cases SMILE operation was completely performed with VisuMax 500 kHz femtosecond laser (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Germany). In all cases complete femtodissection and corneal lenticule removal through a microincision have been performed.
Results:
In study group uncorrected visual acuity before the operation was 0.07 ± 0.06, at the first day post-op it was 0.92 ± 0.11 (p<0.05). Spherical equivalent (SE) before the operation was -5.03 ± 2.68D, at the first day post-op it was - 0.02 ± 0.06D D (p<0.05). Best corrected visual acuity before the operation was 0.98 ± 0.03, at the first day post-op it was 0.93 ± 0.11 (p>0.05).
Conclusions:
SMILE operation can be performed in the eyes with superficial corneal opacities with complete laser femtodissection and corneal lenticule removal through a microincision with good functional results.
