Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess visual outcome and optical quality using a double pass system between lenticuloschisis and lenticular dissection techniques in SMILE for myopia and myopic astigmatism
Setting:
Nethradhama Superspeciality Eye Hospital, Bengaluru
Methods:
Methods: 60 eyes of 30 patients undergoing ReLEx SMILE for myopia and myopic astigmatism were included. One eye of each patient was randomised to undergo lenticuloschisis, while in the other eye lenticule was extracted using dissection technique. Visual acuity, aberrations and optical quality (objective scatter index, OSI) was assessed pre-operatively, 1st post-operative day (POD), 15th POD and at 3 months using a double pass system.
Results:
The mean age of patients was 25.81±2.89 years [range 19-35 years]. The mean pre-operative OSI was 0.48 ± 0.36 in the lenticuloschisis group and 0.48 ± 0.38 in the dissection group with no statistically significant difference between the two groups (p=0.47). Mean post-operative OSI was 0.99 and 1.02 in lenticuloschisis and dissection group respectively. Post-operative OSI between both groups had no statistically significant difference between both eyes (p=0.48). Mean uncorrected distant visual acuity was -0.09 and -0.09 in lenticuloschisis and dissection group.
Conclusions:
Lenticuloschisis and dissection techniques had similar visual and optical quality results. However in patients with lenticuloschisis with better bubble pattern and energy delivery the post-operative OSI and visual results were better.
