Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess the post-operative optical quality in patients undergoing ReLEx SMILE procedure using a double pass system
Setting:
Nethradhama Super-speciality Eye Hospital, Bangalore, India
Methods:
Eligible patients undergoing ReLEx SMILE for myopia and myopic astigmatism were included. One eye of each patient was randomised to undergo interface wash with balanced salt solution, while the other was left unwashed after removal of the lenticule. Pre and first post operative day optical quality was assessed using a double pass system and compared.
Results:
72 eyes of 36 patients were studied. The mean pre operative objective scatter index [OSI] was 0.67 ± 0.49 in the no wash group and 0.55 ± 0.32 in the wash group. The first day post operative mean OSI in the no wash group was 1.30 ± 1.12 and 1.06 ± 0.45 in the interface wash group. The difference in pre and post operative OSI was statistically significant in both groups [p<0.001]. The mean difference in OSI between the wash and no wash group on the first post op day was -0.51 which was a statistically insignificant [p=0.233].
Conclusions:
Washing the interface after removal of the refractive lenticule during the ReLEx SMILE procedure offers no statistically significant difference in the optical quality on the first post operative day.
