Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare the predicted versus achieved lenticular thickness using Anterior segment Optical Coherence Tomography( Optovue, Inc.,Fremont, CA) in patients undergoing Refractive lenticular extraction [ReLEx] Small incision refractive lenticule extraction[SMILE] for myopia correction. Patients with high astigmatism (> 1.5 D) were excluded from the study
Setting:
Nethradhama Superspeciality Eye Hospital, Bangalore
Methods:
37 eyes of 19 patients [ 11 male, and 8 female], mean age 25.42 years, were evaluated retrospectively. For each eye, value of predicted lenticular thickness was collected from VISUMAX femtosecond laser, and achieved lenticular thickness (obtained by subtracting pre operative pachymetry from post operative day 15, excluding epithelial thickness from AS-OCT ] were calculated and compared.
Results:
The mean predicted lenticule thickness was 100.08 microns , and the post operative achieved lenticule thickness was 87.37 microns . Paired sample T test was applied for statistical analysis. The difference in predicted versus achieved lenticular thickness was statistically significant [T= 5.2; P< 0.0001].
Conclusions:
Achieved lenticular thickness was significantly lower than the predicted lenticular thickness. This may be relevant for treatment planning and nomogram adjustment for ReLEx SMILE procedure.
