Abstract Details
Purpose:
To make comparative clinical analysis of safety, efficacy and visual outcomes after small incision lenticul extraction(SMILE) and LASIK procedure in correcting myopia
Setting:
The study was carried out at Zulekha Hospital and all cases were operated by single surgeon.
Methods:
150 eyes of patients with mean spherical equivalent of -6.25+/- 2.25 diopters underwent SMILE procedure.
Another around 150 patients with mean spherical equivalent of -6.50 +/- 2 diopters underwent Femtosecond LASIK procedure at same setup.
Post operative corrected and uncorrected visual acuity, refraction and higher order aberrations were studied and noted at 1,3 and 6 months in both the groups
Results:
In SMILE group there was initial slow recovery of vision was seen which fully stabilised fully after month as FS LASIK patients.
High order aberrations and spherical aberrations was noted less in SMILE patients.
There was no major vision threatening complications after SMILE procedures.
Patients were evaluated and findings noted at each visit at 1st 3rd and 6th month interval.
Conclusions:
Both FS LASIK and SMILE procedure are safe effective well tested and have predictive visual outcomes in Myopia.
In SMILE procedure there was reduction of spherical aberration as compared to LASIK cases.
