Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare changes in pre-op BCDVA and post-op UCDVA (Delta Vision gain) , high order aberration and Contrast sensitivity between Topo guided (Topo-G) LASIK ablation profile and Wavefront Optimized (WFO) treatment profile in Asian population.

Setting:

Prospective eye to eye comparative study in refractive center

Methods:

Utilizing our latest GCT-LASIK model with FS 200 FS flap making and WaveLight®EX500 Excimer Laser with Topography-guided assisted model (Alcon, Inc, Switzerland), a total of 24 eyes of 12 patients with myopia and astigmatism were treated. In which OD where treated with Topo-guided (Topo-G) LASIK and OS were treated with WFO model. Main outcome measure parameter included, BSCVA, UCDVA, Contrast sensitivity, High order aberrations (RMSH) and QQV subjective patient optic quality questionnaire.

Results:

Topo-guided ablation group comprised of mean SE of -5.32 diopter (D) and WFO ablation group comprise of mean SE of -5.41 diopter (D). Post Op 3 month’s data shows no statistically different between their frequency with which Topo-guided and WFO achieved postoperative UCDVA 20/20. HOA (SA/Coma/ Trefoil RMSH) were not statistically different from each other (P> 0.05). There were significant differences in contrast sensitivity (glare and Non-glare Log CS) in High SF group of Log CS 12 and 18 but this is not shown in the lower SF group. Patient questionnaire QQV show preference of Topo-G over WFO.

Conclusions:

Both Topo G-LASIK and WFO LASIK provided excellent results in myopic refractive correction in Asian population, the achieved post op UCDVA of both group show vision gain for some patients. We detected a small but significant difference in High SF section in CS with Topo-G LASIK treated eye, possibly leading to the preference of this model over WFO for the patients.
