Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the visual outcomes of the Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) MINI WELL Ready (SIFI) intraocular lens (IOL) bilaterally implanted in patients after lens removal

Setting:

Oftalvist CIO Jerez, Jerez de la Frontera, Spain

Methods:

Forty eyes from twenty patients were implanted with the Mini Well Ready after lens extraction. Three months after surgery, binocular uncorrected visual acuity was measured for distance (UDVA), intermediate (UIVA) at 80 cm, and near (UNVA) at 40 cm. Binocular distance best-corrected visual acuity was also assessed for the same distances (CDVA, DCIVA, DCNVA). Additionally, the binocular defocus curve and the fotopic and mesopic monocular contrast sensitivity were obtained. Presence of haloes was quantified using the software HALO v1.

Results:

The residual spherical equivalent of the 40 eyes that took part in this study was −0.41±0.74 Diopters (D). Binocular CDVA, DCIVA, and DCNVA were −0.01±0.07, 0.03±0.08, and 0.2±0.07, respectively. The average binocular defocus curve showed optimal VA from +1 D to −2.5 D (40 cm). For some patients, the range of acceptable vision went beyond −3 D. Contrast sensitivity and quantification of haloes were similar to those obtained with other multifocal IOLs.

Conclusions:

Bilateral implantation with the Mini Well Ready intraocular lens provided good visual function in a large interval of work distances. This IOL provided a high degree of satisfaction and spectacle independence for distance , intermediate and near vision,. As expected, patients tend to require the use of spectacles for carrying out tasks involving small details in near vision.
