Abstract Details
Purpose:
To register and analyse changes in vision and Quality Of Life in patients with AMD after implantation of the Scharioth Macula Lens (SML).
Setting:
Eye Hospital Denmark - Charlottenlund, Denmark
Methods:
Consecutive non-randomized 6 months follow-up study of Quality Of Life by VFQ-25 questionary and vision in 25 patients with AMD.
Results:
Far vision was unchanged. Near vision measured by the Radner test improved from Radner 8.3 to Radner 5.8 (P<0.01).
Quality Of Life assessed by VFQ-25 questionary showed a significant improvement from VFQ-score 868.5 to VFQ-score 1106.5 (P<0.01). Especially in the group with previous legal blindness compared with the group with partial sight.
Conclusions:
Near vision improved according to the preoperative predictable measurements, whereas far vision was unchanged.
Quality Of Life surprisingly improved in the group with legal blindness i.e a bettering of daily activities.
