Abstract Details
Purpose:
So far, there are only a few reports on YAG capsulotomy incidence and aftercataract following femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery (FLACS). One report indicated no significant difference between FLACS group and none FLACS group. Other reports indicated totally different results.
We retrospectively updated the postoperative YAG capsulotomy incidence due to aftercataract in FLACS group and none FLACS group.
Setting:
Nishi Eye Hospital, Osaka, Japan
Methods:
We retrospectively investigated the YAG capsulotomy rates of various IOLs with sharp edges both in FLACS group and none FLACS group. Monofocal IOLs (Technis Z9002, AMO) and multifocal IOLs (ReSTORE, Alcon、Technis ZMB00, AMO、FineVision, PhysIOL) were included in the study.
Results:
3-year postoperative YAG rates of monofocal IOLs in FLACS group and none FLACS group were 11.5% (3 eyes among 26 eyes) and 6.8% (447 eyes among 6586 eyes) respectively (p=0.34).
3-year YAG rates of multifocal IOLs in FLACS group and none FLACS group were 14.3% (11 eyes among 77 eyes) and 11.4% (19 eyes among 167 eyes) (p=0.52).
There was a significant difference of 3-year YAG rates between
monofocal IOLs (6.8%) and multifocal IOLs (11.4%) in none FLACS group (p<0.05) but no significant difference (11.5% for monofocal IOLs and 14.3% for multifocal IOLs) was found in FLACS group (p=0.72).
Conclusions:
No significant difference of the YAG rates was found between the FLACS group and none FLACS group, though the FLACS group showed slightly higher rates 3 year postoperatively. Multifocal IOLs tended to show slightly higher YAG rates than monofocal IOLs.
More reports of the YAG rates following FLACS are definitely required.
