Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess refractive, visual and patient-reported outcomes in patients bilaterally implanted with a Tecnis diffractive IOL with +2.75 D near add.
Setting:
Optical Express, Glasgow, UK
Methods:
Data of 1,305 consecutive patients that underwent refractive lens exchange with bilateral implantation of a Tecnis diffractive multifocal IOL (model ZKB00) were retrospectively reviewed. The mean age at the time of surgery was 60 ± 7 years. Eleven percent of patients had myopic and 89% had hyperopic refractive error preoperatively. The last available clinical exam was used for analysis.
Results:
The follow-up time ranged between 1 and 12 months. Of all patients, 88% had binocular distance visual acuity of 20/20 or better and 93% achieved binocular near visual acuity of N6 or better. At the last available exam, 96% of patients were satisfied or very satisfied with their outcome, 98% would undergo the same treatment again and 95% would recommend the treatment to friends or family. Moderate to severe difficulty with glare and starburst were reported in 4.3% and 5.6% of patients, respectively.
Conclusions:
Bilateral implantation of the Tecnis diffractive ZKB00 IOL resulted in high patient satisfaction and good bilateral distance and near visual acuity. Visual phenomena was lower compared to our previous experience with multifocal IOLs with higher near add.
