Abstract Details
Purpose:
To describe the clinical outcomes of Descemet's membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) in glaucoma patients.
Setting:
Sorocaba Eye Bank / Sorocaba Ophthalmology Hospital.
Methods:
Retrospective study, including 55 eyes of 48 patients with glaucoma undergoing DMEK by a single surgeon (NCP) from July 2013 to July 2017 at Sorocaba Eye Bank /Sorocaba Ophthalmology Hospital. Best-corrected visual acuity, biomicroscopy, previous eyes diseases and complications were evaluated.
Results:
There were 27 patients with glaucoma controlled previously with surgery (trabeculectomy and/or tube) in the surgical treatment group and 28 patients controlled previously with medical treatment (eye drops) without glaucoma surgery in the medical treatment group. One patient from the medical treatment group had a primary graft failure due to a toxic anterior segment syndrome. Two patients (8.7%) from the surgical treatment group required rebubbling. Only one patient (3.6%) from the medical treatment group required rebubbling. One patient in the medical treatment group required glaucoma surgery after DMEK to control intraocular pressure.
Conclusions:
DMEK in patients with glaucoma can result in good outcomes, with more rebubbling in patients with previous glaucoma surgery.
