Abstract Details

Purpose:

To present an efficient management of a femtosecond laser related complication.

Setting:

1. Ophthalmology Department of  Central Medical Office of Thessaloniki of Police Association.   2. Ophthalmos team.    3. 2nd University Department of Ophthalmology of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Papageorgiou Hospital.

Methods:

A 29 old male presented as a refractive surgery candidate for myopia and astigmatism correction. He was scheduled for a femtosecond LASIK surgery during of witch there was a femtosecond laser complication at the left eye. There was a very thin flap creation probably after a non-proper suction process. The flap didn’t completely lifted, what happened the next day with a deeper flap and a different hinge orientation. The LASIK procedure was then performed uneventfully. A remaining topography island due to initial thin flap creation was treated with a second PRK procedure on top.

Results:

Two months after the 2nd refractive surgery procedure the uncorrected vision acuity of the left eye was 10/10.

Conclusions:

When a flap related femtosecond laser complication is performed,  it is advisable not to lift the flap initially but to manage the complication in a second or a following procedure.
