Ehud Assia graduated from the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University in 1980 (Magna Cum Laude) and has a Masters degree in Ophthalmology (Summa Cum Laude, 1989). He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Goldschleger Eye Institute at the Sheba Medical Center, Tel-Hashomer.
He completed a 2 year fellowship at the Center for Intraocular Lens Research (David J. Apple, MD) at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC, USA. Dr Assia was Director of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Meir Medical Center, Kfar-Saba between 1994-2018. He serves there now as the Director of the Center for Applied Eye Research.
Dr Assia is Full Professor at Tel-Aviv University and was Director of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Sackler School of Medicine between 1998-2002. His main interest is lens pathophysiology, anterior segment surgery and intraocular implants. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers in the leading professional journals as well as over 50 publications and 25 chapters in books. He is a co-author of a book on "Premium and specialized Intraocuar lenses" (Bantham Publishers Co. 2014). Dr Assia has developed several original patented devices and instruments.
He was the Chief Editor of a local journal in ophthalmology ("Israeli Journal of Eye Update") for 23 years. He is a member of the Cataract Clinical Committee of the ASCRS. Dr Assia is also the Medical Director of the Ein Tal Eye Center, the biggest private eye center in Israel.
