Abstract Details

Purpose:

The purpose of this study was to present a patient with high bilateral hyperopia who corrected with phacoemulsification and foldable intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.

Setting:

Regiona hospital durres.

Methods:

Case report: An 18-year-old high hyperopic female did not want to wear glasses anymore and taking into account that she was also intolerant to contact lenses,

Results:

She had biateral  refractive lens exchange with IOLs implantation  The dilemma of depriving the patient of the natural accommodative option was overcame after discussion with her. SRK/T formula was used to determine the IOL power, which is the preferred formula in hyperopic eyes, patient ended up with +8 D of residual refractive error in the first operated eye. Based on this postoperative result, intraocular lenses were recalculated and, after the exchange of the first implanted intraocular lens with the correct one, patient had +0.25 D mean spherical equivalent in boh eyes. Best uncorrected visual acuity was 0.6 in both eyes

Conclusions:

Clear lens extraction with foldable intraocular lens implantation in young hyperopeas seems to be well tolerated and safe method for correcting high hyperopia
