Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare two different trifocal lenses, the RayOne Trifocal (“R IOL”, Rayner Surgical, UK) and the AT Lisa Tri 839 MP (“Z IOL”, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Germany).

Setting:

Vienna Institute for Ocular Surgery (VIROS), ein Karl-Landsteiner Institut, Hanusch Krankenhaus, Vienna, Austria.

Methods:

In this randomized, double-blinded trial, we included patients with planned cataract surgery for both eyes who were motivated to be less spectacle dependent. Pre-operatively, 1 week and 3 months post-operatively autorefraction as well as subjective refraction were performed. Additionally, uncorrected and corrected near, intermediate and distant visual acuity (ETDRS, Precision Vision, USA) was evaluated at the 3 month follow-up, also reading speed (Salzburg Reading Test, SRD Vision), a defocus curve, a patient questionnaire about quality of vision, a purkinjemeter- and halometer-measurement (Aston Halometer, Aston EyeTech Ltd.) and a contrast sensitivity measurement (OPTEC 6500, Stereo Optical Company Inc.) were assessed.

Results:

Preliminary data of 56 eyes of 28 patients were available for statistical analysis. No intra-operative or post-operative complications were observed in the R IOL or the Z IOL group. Uncorrected near/intermediate/distance visual acuity for the R IOL and the Z IOL were -0.08/-0.06/0.30logMAR and -0.06/-0.04/0.27logMAR, respectively. Differences between both IOLs were not found to be significant (p= 0.569 / p=0.602 / p=0.162, Wilcoxon signed rank test). Halometer measurements, reading acuity and the results of the questionnaire will be presented in Paris.

Conclusions:

Both of the trifocal intraocular lenses have comparable visual outcomes 3 months postoperatively. With both lenses there were no complications, neither peri- nor post-operatively. Further results, including the assessed data of the measurements described above will be presented at the meeting.
