Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate visual acuity and quality of vision in eyes implanted with the Panoptix IOL.
Setting:
A tertiary eye care hospital in New Delhi ( North India)
Methods:
50 eyes of 50 patients that underwent cataract surgery with the panoptix IOL were included in the study. Preoperative evaluation was done using ITrace aberrometer, Pentacam, IOL master 700, Autorefractometry and Keratometry. Cataract grading was performed using LOCS 3 grading system. Cataract surgery was performed by a single surgeon. The same parameters were studied 1 month and 3 months after surgery.
Results:
There was a significant improvement in UDVA and BCVA after surgery (P< 0.05). There was an improvement in the Modilation Transfer function after cataract surgery however this was not statistically significant. Intermediate and near vision showed significant improvement after surgery.
Conclusions:
The new trifiocal panoptix IOL provides excellent distance , intermediate and near vision with good contrast and in conditions of ambient light. It is a good option in patients interested in being independent of glasses in the presbyopia age group
