Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare visual outcomes in patients after cataract surgery and bilateral implantation of Tecnis Symfony and At Lara 829 MP intraocular lenses
Setting:
II Clinic of Ophthalmology,Pomeranian Medical University, Szczecin
Wojciech Lubinski, Karolina Podboraczynska-Jodko
Methods:
Three months after uneventful binocular cataract surgery in two groups (10 patients each): group I - Tecnis Symfony, group II – AT LARA Zeiss IOLs binocular uncorrected distance (4 m), intermediate (60, 70 and 80 cm), near (40 cm) visual acuities (UDVA, UIVA, UNVA - logMAR), uncorrected binocular photopic and mesopic distance and photopic near contrast sensitivities (CSV-1000), defocuse curve, spectacle independence, subjective symptoms, patient satisfaction (VFQ-25) and complications were evaluated.
Results:
UDVA and UNVA in both groups was very good and did not differ significantly between groups. After surgery the intermediate vision at 60,70 and 80 cm was significantly better in both groups. Contrast sensitivities under different conditions were within normal age-matched limits. In both groups low level of halo perception was reported, less than 2 (0-4), but mean overall patient satisfaction was very high, more than 9.0 (0-10). No postoperative complications were detected.
Conclusions:
Preliminary results suggest, that binocular implantations of Symfony and AT Lara 829 MP IOLs were safe and effective method for patients who want to be spectacle independent at different distances.
