Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the subjective and objective visual results after implantation of new diffractive complementary IOLs with advanced diffractive profiles.
Setting:
VISTA Ircovisión Oftalmólogos, Murcia, Spain.
Methods:
Complementary multifocal IOLs were designed by combining two advanced diffractive profiles one favouring intermediate vision and the other addressing near vision. Twenty eyes of 10 patients were included in this study. Exclusion criteria were any eye comorbidity including eye dryness (DEWS>2), pupil smaller than 2 mm and larger than 4 mm in photopic conditions. Uncorrected and best distance corrected monocular and binocular near, intermediate and far visual acuities, contrast sensitivity and defocus curves were assessed 1 month postoperatively. In addition to standard follow-up, a short questionnaire evaluating the patient satisfaction and quality of life was also proposed.
Results:
The mean monocular uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) was LogMAR 0.06±0.10, improving to LogMAR 0.00±0.08 when best corrected. The binocular outcomes do not significantly change in the UDVA (LogMAR -0.05±0.09). The monocular uncorrected intermediate (respectively near) visual acuity is LogMAR -0.09±0.15 (respectively LogMAR 0.02±0.06). The contrast sensitivity was within the range of the 50-75 years-old patients. The binocular best distance corrected defocus curve showed a plateau from 0 to -3D. Patient satisfaction was high. There was no discrepancy between objective and subjective outcomes.
Conclusions:
The combination of two advanced profiles enabled the patients to experience a continuous range of sharp vision at most distances with overall high patient’s satisfaction.
