Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the refractive outcome and the patient satisfaction to obtain spectacle independence after pseudophakic multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) surgeries were performed.
Setting:
Clinica de OJos Dr. Nano, Olivos, Buenos Aires-Argentina.
Methods:
A prospective case series study was developed in patients with cataract surgery indication. The multifocal IOL implanted was FullRange (Hanita, Israel). Spherical equivalent (SE), binocular uncorrected visual acuity for distance (UDVA), and near sight (Jaeger test) as well as the ability to use computers. Also, the patients answer a specific questionnaire designed for this study. Questions ask about: if the patient has obtained “glasses independence”, “if the surgical outcome expectation was achieved” and “if halos were noted and bother their activities”. The parameters were evaluated baseline and one year after surgery
Results:
A total of 480 eyes (240 patients) were operated. Postoperative SE: 82.9% was between +0.25 to -0.25D. Remain eyes were between -0.75 to +0.75 D. Near sight was J1: 72.5% and J2: 27.5%. Questionnaire answers (patients satisfaction): 92% have obtained glasses independence; 4%: need it sometimes to read and 2% need sometimes for driving/watching TV and 2% need glasses for digital screens. The surgical expectative was totally achieved in 98% (and not at all in 2%). Regarding the presence of halos: 87%: NO; 1%: yes always and bother; 5%: sometimes and bother and 7%: sometimes, but doesn’t bother.
Conclusions:
One year after surgery, the refractive outcome achieved with this multifocal IOL was as preoperative expected (good predictability), most patients have obtained spectacle independence and they are satisfied with the surgical result.
