Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the three months post-operative visual outcome and IOL stability of FEMTIS monofocal IOL (Oculentis) in patients who had undergone Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS).

Setting:

VISTA Eye Specialist, MALAYSIA

Methods:

This prospective study included 30 eyes with senile cataract who underwent Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS) with FEMTIS monofocal IOL implanted. FLACS corneal incisions, capsulotomy and lens fragmentation were performed using ZIEMER Femto LDV Z8. Over a 3 months follow-up period, the uncorrected visual acuity for distance (UCDVA), spherical equivalent (SE), and patient satisfaction were evaluated. The IOL decentration (horizontal and vertical) was primarily evaluated with pictures taken immediately after surgery, 1 month and 3 months post-op respectively.

Results:

At post-op 1 month, 90% of the patients (27 eyes) implanted with FEMTIS monofocal IOL achieved UCDVA of 20/25 (6/7.5) or better. Patients were then followed up 3 months post-operatively, and 95% (29 eyes) achieved UCDVA of 20/25 (6/7.5) or better. The IOL stability was high as no significant horizontal and vertical decentration of the lens were noted immediately after surgery, during 1 month and 3 months post-op. High patient satisfaction was reported post-operatively especially in visual outcomes and comfort in overall performance.

Conclusions:

The implantation of FEMTIS monofocal IOL in patients who underwent FLACS has demonstrated excellent visual and refractive outcomes,  great IOL stability and high patient satisfaction post-operatively. This new IOL designed for FLACS will optimize the stability and predictability of clinical outcomes in multifocal and toric IOLs implantation in the near future.
