Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate sensitivity to tilt and decentration in aspheric aberration-free advanced optic (AO) intraocular lenses (IOLs)
Setting:
Bausch and Lomb Surgical R&D, Clearwater, FL
Methods:
Optical bench testing was performed on aspheric aberration-free AO lenses to included: Akreos (MI60, AO60), Crystalens (AO1UV, AO2UV), enVista (MX60), enVista Toric (MX60T), Sofport (Li61AO), and Trulign toric (BL1UT). Three samples were used for each IOL model to include: low (0-10D), medium (10.5-26.0D), and high power (26.5-30.0D). Modulation transfer function (MTF) measurements were taken with Optisphere IOL Pro (Trioptics GmbH) fitted with ISO 1 cornea and measured at 50 lp/mm with 3mm aperture per ISO standard. Lenses were measured on-axis, tilted (5°), and decentered (1mm, 0.5mm for torics). Results were compared to show sensitivity differences between conditions
Results:
MTF values were collected for each IOL model and power (low, medium, high). On-axis: AO60 (0.763, 0.772, 0.748), MI60 (0.742, 0.784, 0.754), LI61AO (0.751, 0.718, 0.810), MX60 (0.75, 0.754, 0.666), MX60T (0.724, 0.742, 0.777), AO2UV/AO1UV (0.893, 0.891, 0.896), BL1UT (0.755, 0.713, 0.706). Tilted: AO60 (0.743, 0.652, 0.59), MI60 (0.738, 0.723, 0.657), LI61AO (0.695, 0.763, 0.716), MX60 (0.735, 0.648, 0.566), MX60T (0.737, 0.696, 0.687), AO2UV/AO1UV (0.813, 0.810, 0.815), BL1UT (0.737, 0.589, 0.551). Decentered: AO60 (0.758, 0.784, 0.447), MI60 (0.771, 0.774, 0.537), LI61AO (0.756, 0.727, 0.763), MX60 (0.544, 0.759, 0.581), MX60T (0.628, 0.739, 0.748), AO2UV/AO1UV (0.735, 0.715, 0.757), BL1UT (0.729, 0.719, 0.699)
Conclusions:
Aspheric aberration-free AO optics were designed to reduce aberrations and prevent degradation to image quality with decentration and tilt. MTF values collected in this study showed less sensitivity to tilt and decentration for low and medium powered lenses. Higher powered acrylic lenses showed more variability to decentration and tilt compared to silicone IOLs. Additional measurements are needed to confirm precision and repeatability
