Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate visual outcomes at 3 months after bilateral implantation of a new EDOF intraocular lens (Synthesis Plus – Cutting Edge) in a routine cataract population.

Setting:

Consorci Sanitari Integral, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain

Methods:

Prospective evaluation of 9 patients (17 eyes) bilaterally implanted with Synthesis Plus EDOF intracoular lens (IOL) with emmetropia target. Visual acuity at distance, intermediate (70 cm) and near (40 cm) with and without refraction, refractive error, monocular photopic defocus curve and contrast sensitivity curve with best corrected distance refraction were measured. Subjective outcomes in terms of visual function, spectacle independence, light independence, dysphotopsia and overall satisfaction were assessed at one and three months follow up visits.

Results:

Mean age of the patients was 69.71 years old ± 9.2. The mean IOL power was 21.94 ± 2.84.  3 months after surgery, the mean decimal uncorrected distance (UCDVA), intermediate (UCIVA) and near (UCNVA) visual acuities were 0.8, 0.77 and 0.56 respectively. Monocular defocus curve with distance refraction for 0,3 logMAR VA showed 1,75D of depth of field. Mean addition for best distance corrected near visual acuity was 1,35 D ± 0,37. Mean refractive error for SRK/T formula was -0,23D ± 0,31. Contrast sensitivity was within normal limits. Patient satisfaction was high with a low occurrence of dysphotopsiae.

Conclusions:

A constant should be optimized for better predictability. Synthesis Plus EDOF IOL shows satisfactory visual performances after cataract surgery with high patient’s satisfaction and low occurrence of visual perturbations. Synthesis Plus IOL allows for good distance and intermediate vision and might necessitate small addition spectacle for small prints at near.
