Abstract Details
Purpose:
To analyze the aberrometric pattern of a toric extended depth of focus intraocular lens (EDOF IOLS).
Setting:
University of Alicante (Spain)
Methods:
A special optical bench with a Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor (SH) was designed for the measurement of the aberrometric profile of the Mini Well Toric Ready (SIFI S.p.A.) of 20 D and 1.5 and 2 D of astigmatism respectively. Dependency of the pupil size, the value and axis of the astigmatism were analyzed.
Results:
The aberrometric pattern of the two Toric IOLs was obtained for the axis astigmatism of 30º, 60º, 90º, 120º, 150º and 180º. Independently the axis, for the pupil size of 4.5 mm the Mini Well Toric Ready provided between -0.18 and -0.19 µm of negative spherical aberration and about 0.09 µm of positive spherical aberration. When a pupil size of 3 mm is considered, the negative spherical aberration decreased to -0.155 µm due to the disappearance of the tertiary spherical aberration. A same trend was observed in the positive spherical aberration with a decrement up to 0.05 µm.
Conclusions:
Excluding lower order terms, the aberrometric behavior of the Mini Well Toric Ready is the same independently the value and axis of the astigmatism. This toric EDOF IOL always provides significant negative and positive spherical aberrations for all pupil sizes as the manufacturer indicates.
