Abstract Details

Purpose:

The aim of this study was to assess the effects of implantable collamer lens (V4c ICL) implantation on high myopia patients using Cirrus optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A).

Setting:

Chongqing Aier Eye Hosptial, Chongqing, China

Methods:

This was a prospective study. 38 eyes of 19 high myopia patients were randomly enrolled into this study. Cirrus optical coherence tomography angiography was used to image retinal thickness, the superficial, deep and whole retinal vascular plexuses at the macular and optic disc region before and 1 month after V4c ICL implantation. Data of retinal thickness, macular vascular density, macular perfusion, vascular density of optic disc, optic disc perfusion were analyzed.

Results:

The mean age of the patients was 26.32±1.38 (19~39 years old), the mean diopters was -9.96±0.86D. 1 month after V4c ICL implantation, log VA was 5.0±0.22 (p<0.05). 1 month after the surgery, the average density of macular was (17.18±2.48 p>0.05), the average perfusion of macular was (0.419±0.066 p>0.05); while compared with that before V4c ICL implantation, the average density of optic disc was increased (16.44±4.64 p<0.05), the average perfusion of optic disk was also increased (0.423±0.091 p<0.05).

Conclusions:

There are no effects on macular retinal vessels with V4c ICL implantation. But maybe the effect of brimonidine with one month`s regular use after surgery, that causes obvious increase of the average density and perfusion of optic disc. Further research and long time follow- up are still needed.
