Abstract Details
Purpose:
To present a case with intrascleral foreignbody mimicking uveitis that was localised by diascleral illumination
Setting:
Uludag University, Department of Ophthalmology
Methods:
A 76 years old male presented with hyperemia and severe pain in his left eye for 3 days. He had a history of dust blown into his eyes. He had chemosis and anterior chamber flare and had no improvement with topical moxifloxacin.
Results:
Upon deterioration orbital computed tomography (CT) was ordered and CT scan revealed a foreign body in vicinity of right medial rectus. During exploration no foreign body was detected at first glance. By diascleral illumination using an endoillumination probe, the exact localization of the foreign body was deliniated and the foreign body was removed through sclerotomy. After foreign body removal, the chemosis and inflammation subsided
Conclusions:
Although scleral foreign bodies can be detected by CT it may be diffucult to visualize them if they are embedded. Diascleral illumination may be very useful to localize them.
