Abstract Details
Purpose:
To present a case of ocular findings in a patient with primary small cell lung carcinoma.
Setting:
Eye Department, Volos General Hospital, Thessaly, Greece
Methods:
A 52 year old female patient attended the Eye casualty department with eyelid edema and watery discharge of the left eye. She reported a history of small cell lung carcinoma. Ocular examination revealed three small, hard, well defined lesions located at the superior nasal orbital wall and proptosis of the left eye. The patient's visual acuity in the same eye was no restricted. CT-scan was performed in order to determine the nature of the lesions.
Results:
CT-scan revealed brain, kidney and orbital metastatic lesions and the patient was referred for oncology consultation.
Conclusions:
Although rare, metastatic orbital lesions should be considered in all patients with a history of lung cancer.
