Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate Night Vision Quality (NVQ) after Femtosecond laser-assisted LASIK (FS) and Refractive Lenticule Extraction (ReLEx) in patients with large Scotopic pupils

Setting:

Prospective, non-randomized comparison between two groups of patients with large scotopic pupils (7mm or larger), undergoing FS and ReLEx for moderate to high myopia, with or without astigmatism, at a private practice refractive surgery center in Bangkok, Thailand.

Methods:

Subjective scale scores of NVQ were recorded before, and at least three months after the respective procedures using questionnaires.  Samples were randomly selected into the two groups from a larger pool of patients to match preoperative characteristics.  THe scores were then statistically analyzed.

Results:

One hundred patients in each group were included.  On average, there were no change in the NVQ scores in the FS group, whereas there was an increase in those in the ReLEx group.  The proportion of patients reporting increased NVQ after ReLEx was statistically significant compared to that in the FS group.

Conclusions:

ReLEx SMILE may provide better night vision than Femto LASIK in patients with larger scotopic pupils.
