Abstract Details

Purpose:

Describe the normative values of rotating Scheimpflug imaging indices in different pediatric age groups.

Setting:

Al Watany Eye Hospital, Cairo, Egypt

Methods:

All retrievable data of significance (45 parameter) from 469 normal right pediatric eyes imaged by Oculyzer II (equivalent to Pentacam HR) between December 2013 and October 2018 were collected and analyzed according to age groups; group A (3-6 years old), group B (6-12 years old) group C (12-18 years old)

Results:

Group A comprised 17, group B 132, and C 320 eyes. There were significant differences between groups in anterior chamber depth and volume (P<0.001, both), and between group 2 and 3 in Pachymetry Progression Index (PPI) avg and max, Ambrosio Relational Thickness (ART) avg and max (P <0.001, 0.006, <0.001, and 0.012, respectively). There was no difference between age groups in the others; e.g. mean (±SD): mean keratometry 43.91 (1.92), steepest point 46.01 (2.64), index of surface variance 31.5 (12.7), index of height decentration 0.0135 (0.0146), thinnest pachymetry 531.5 (42.3), front elevation 5 (4.8), and back elevation 8.5 (9.7)

Conclusions:

These normative data differ according to age in some of the Pentacam parameters. The difference must be considered in diagnosis of pediatric diseases as keratoconus
