Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess the reproducibility of keratometric measurements before and after stabilization of the tear film with artificial tears in normal and dry eyes. The aim is to advice users how to handle challenging keratometric measurements.
Setting:
Department of Ophthalmology, Medical University of Vienna
Methods:
This prospective, randomized study comprises 80 eyes divided in two groups of 40 eyes each (normal / dry eyes). Keratometric measurements will be performed using an IOL Master 500 in normal and in dry eyes. Following native measurements, two artificial tear agents different in viscosity will be instilled at separate visits. Afterwards keratometry will be repeated after 30 seconds, 2 minutes and 5 minutes.
Results:
will be presented
Conclusions:
It is known that an instable tear film can cause inaccurate keratometric measurements, resulting in inadequate biometries. Stabilization of the tear film is often attempted through instillation of artificial tears. The aim of this study is to investigate the reproducibility of the keratometry in normal and dry eyes when artificial tears have been used. We assume that a certain time frame should be upheld after instillation of artificial tears before remeasuring the anterior surface.
