Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate repeatability and comparability of central corneal thickness (CCT) and endothelial cell count (ECD) measurements obtained using two different noncontact specular miscroscope, Konan SP-9000 (Konan Medical Inc., Nishinomiya, Japan) and SBISA’ SB 400 (SBISA’, Florence, Italy).

Setting:

Eye Clinic – Pordenone Hospital

Methods:

Fifty-seven eyes from 30 patients scheduled for cataract surgery were enrolled in this study. CCT  and endothelial cells count were measured. Repeatability was assessed by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Agreement of measurements between the devices was evaluated by the Bland-Altman method.

Results:

The analysis of CCT data of Konan SP-9000 and SBISA’ SB 400 showed high repeatability. CCT measurements were statistically significant different between the instruments, with SB 400 showing lower values. The analysis of endothelial cell count readings showed lower repeatability, with lower values showed by the Konan SP-9000. These results were in accordance with Bland-Altman plots.

Conclusions:

CCT and ECD measurements obtained by the analysed instruments showed good repeatability. In clinical practice measurements taken by Konan SP-9000 and SBISA’ SB 400 cannot be used interchangeably in patients with cataracts.
