Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the characteristics of the anterior chamber of patients with angle-closure glaucoma and patients with a high risk of closing the anterior chamber angle before and after the laser iridotomy with the help of  corneal topography.

Setting:

Kiev Center of therapy and eye microsurgery, Kiev, Ukraine.

Methods:

We identified 39 patients ( 61 eyes) with a high risk of closing the anterior chamber angle and with angle -closure glaukoma. All the patients had a full ophthalmologic examination including corneal topography. During the corneal topography the following characteristics were estimated: -the depth of anterior chamber (varied from 1.11 to 2.47 mm) - the angle of anterior chamber (varied from 10.7 to 24.7  degree) - the volume of anterior chamber (varied from 63 to 114) Considering the high risk of increased intraocular pressure, the laser iridotomy was carried out for all patients.

Results:

On the 7th day after the laser iridotomy the same characteristics were estimated: - the depth of anterior chamber was increased on the average of 14.2% - the angle of anterior chamber was increased on the average of 13.7% - the volume of anterior chamber was increased on the average of2.2% The changing of the characteristics of the anterior chamber alloved us to evaluate the execution efficiency of laser iridotomy.

Conclusions:

•Using the corneal topography to evaluate the  characteristics of  anterior chamber allow us in proper time to identify the patients with angle -closure glaucoma and with high risk of close the anterior chamber angle  and evaluate the execution efficiency of laser iridotomy.
