Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the IOP-lowering effect of Excimer Laser Trabeculostomy ab interno (ELT) as a stand-alone procedure.

Setting:

Laser Center Hannover-Nord, Germany

Methods:

20 patients underwent the ELT as a stand-alone procedure and were observed for 12 months postoperatively. IOP, visual acuity, visual field and number of necessary antiglaucomatous drugs were measured preop, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months postop.

Results:

All patients showed significantly lowered IOP, preop 25.9 mmHg versus 14.1 mmHg postop. Visual acuity and visual field remained stable with all patients. 15 of 20 patients needed less or no antiglaucomatous drugs postop.

Conclusions:

ELT is highly effective minimal invasive IOP-lowering procedure. ELT is easy to perform and has short learning curve. ELT doesn’t scar conjunctiva. ELT means very little strain for patients, no pain, no transitory loss of visual acuity or change of refraction.
