Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare the safety and effectiveness of arcuate incisions and toric IOLs in eyes with astigmatism up to 2.25 D during cataract surgery.
Setting:
Private ophthalmology practice
Methods:
This prospective, randomized, comparative study included 50 eyes of 50 patients aged ≥ 18 years. Patients were randomized into 2 groups: a toric IOL group (alignment guided by the IntelliAxis-L capsular marking system, LENSAR) and an arcuate incision group (performed with LENSAR laser system), which received non-toric IOLs. Toric IOL alignment with the pre-defined astigmatism axis was guided by iris registration (IR) with automated cyclotorsion compensation. Post-operative study parameters were visual and refractive outcomes, Quality of Life (RQL-42 questionnaire), IOL rotation from the intended axis, mesopic and photopic contrast sensitivity and incidence of adverse events.
Results:
Data are being collected.
Conclusions:
Preliminary data analysis finds the two groups to be comparable with regards to visual and refractive outcomes, including contrast and questionnaire.
