Abstract Details
Purpose:
Streamlight is a trade mark of one-step transepithelial PRK (photorefractive keratectomy). The aim of the procedure is a laser epithelial removal using excimer laser energy (PTK - nonrefractive) and stroma reshaping with excimer laser energy (WFO or F-CAT mode). For StreamLight TM a completely new shot matrix was calculated to compensate above described effect and to enable an equal ablation of the epithelium over the treatment zone.
Setting:
Aim of this study is to analyze surgical outcomes and safety of two different methods of laser refractive surgery: standard PRK and new one-step Trans-epi PRK– StreamLightTM.
Methods:
To compare surgical outcomes, uncorrected visual acuity, procedure time, healing time, safety and patient´s comfort. We analyzed 24 eyes of 12 patients. We have used different procedure for right eyes - standard PRK method and different procedure - Trans-epithelial PRK – StreamLightTM for all left eyes.
Results:
If epithelium has been removed gently using excimer laser we observed accelerated re-epithelization < 3 days using Trans-epithelial PRK. Patients reported higher comfort and less pain using Trans-epithelial PRK.
Conclusions:
Since the one-step Transepithelial PRK procedure is a new method in our Eye department and based on inclusion and exlusion criterias we have included until now 12 patients in to this study. Despite the fact, that only one centration is needed the streamlined workflow through one-step procedure (PTK + PRK) is an advantage for Wavefront Optimized profile. PTK treatment zone, size and location is automatically determined by the laser based on the PRK ablation profile. Laser´s multi-dimensional eye tracker is active throughout the complete procedure (PTK + PRK).
