Purpose:
To assess the safety, efficacy, visual outcome and corneal asymmetry of partial surface ablation laser guided by corneal wavefront combined with accelerated cross-linking in the treatment of keratoconus.
Setting:
New Vision Eye Center, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai, UAE
Methods:
32 eyes of 32 patients aged between 18 and 40 years with keratoconus (partial surface ablation laser guided by corneal wavefront combined with accelerated cross-linking in the treatment of keratoconus). Pre- and postoperative evaluations included: refraction, uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity, flat and steep keratometry reading, symmetry index front. Inferior-superior ratio, complication were evaluated 1, 3, 6, and 12 months post-Op.
Results:
All study parameters showed a statistically significant improvement at 3, 6, 12 months over preoperative values. At 12 months, UDVA improved from 20/125 to 20/30 with P< 0.0001, CDVA improved from 20/40 to 20/25 with P< 0.0001, SEQ improved from -5.19 (D) to -1.56D with P< 0.0001, SIF improved from 6.1D to 1.2D.
Conclusions:
Partial surface ablation laser guided by corneal wavefront combined with accelerated cross-linking in the treatment of keratoconus was a safe and effective procedure that regularises the ectatic corneal surface, improving visual function of progressive KC without over-correction and no progressing of cone lower part.
