Abstract Details

Purpose:

To describe progressive corneal flattening in 4 patients with a diagnosis of bilateral keratoconus using Scheimpflug imaging. No contact lens, corneal collagen crosslinking nor other treatment was performed.

Setting:

Instituto Oftalmosalud, Lima, Perú

Methods:

Retrospective cases series study of 4 patients with previous diagnosis of keratoconus evaluated from 2008 to 2016. The following variables were evaluated: Maximum keratometry, anterior flattest, steeper keratometry, posterior elevation at the TP, central corneal thicknes, pachymetry at the thinnest point, distance from the thinnest point to the corneal center.

Results:

Mean change in maximum keratometry was -3.1 diopters (D) , -2.7 D, -1.5 D and -2 D in patiens 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. Mean change in steeper keratometry was 0.7 D , 0.1 D, -0.1 D and 0.2 D in patiens 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. Mean change in CCT was -21 µm , 29 µm , -10 µm and 9 µm in patiens 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. Mean change in posterior elevation  was -14 µm , -2 µm , 2 µm and 5 µm  in patiens 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively.

Conclusions:

A natural regression of Keratoconus was observed in this 4 patients without any treatment.
