Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the rate of keratoconus progression after Myoring implantation in keratoconus patients.

Setting:

Vision Health Research Center, Semnan university of medical sciences, Semnan, Iran

Methods:

In this retrospective study, 267 patients with keratoconus  who underwent  Myoring implantation (Dioptex GmbH) were included. The minimum time for  stability  evaluation was 6 months and minimum follow up was 36 months after surgery. Criteria for progression of keratoconus  were defined with a difference between  these two measurements.  This criteria was: Kmax ≥1D, astigmatism≥1D and decrease in corneal thickness ≥ 25µm).

Results:

The mean follow up was 54 months(range:36-96 months) and mean stable time was 9 months(range: 6-12 months) . Regarding the keratoconus stag, 19, 42 and 39% of patients categorized as mild, moderate and sever  respectively.  56 patints (21%)  patient s showed  at least one of the progression criteria.  In progression cases  11(19.6%), 21(37.5%) and 24(42.8%) patients were in mild, moderate and sever group respectively.

Conclusions:

The progression rate of keratoconus after Myoring implantation is noticeable. Patient with Myoring implantation should be followed at regular intervals .The result of this study showed that the keratoconus stage has no effect on progression rate.
