Abstract Details
Purpose:
To describe outcome of amniotic membrane grafting (AMG) with conjunctival resection in patients of peripheral ulcerative keratitis ( PUK) not responding to medical treatment.
Setting:
This study was conducted in a tertiary care eye hospital in South India
Methods:
A Retrospective interventional case series including 9 eyes of 7 patients with PUK not responding to medical therapy were treated with conjunctival resection with AMG ( double layered graft ). A free hand graft tailored to fit the localised defect was used.
Results:
Patients were followed up one month and 6 months after surgery. Improvement of signs and symptoms were noted including decreased ocular inflammation and corneal infiltration with increased stromal thickness. All eyes except one did not need any further therapy.
Conclusions:
Conjunctival resection with AMG may be an alternative surgical approach in the management of PUK to control the inflammation and progression of the disease
