Abstract Details
Purpose:
To describe the utility and benefits of an intraoperative optical coherence tomographer during Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty surgery and roll preparation
Setting:
Tertiary referral cornea hospital
Methods:
Video recording and OCT real time video capture of 3 DMEK surgeries and 2 roll tissue preparation. Video and real time OCT images were analyzed to explain different steps of the surgery. Surgical time and unfolding time were measured
Results:
Both grafts were successfully prepared. Cleavage plane was easily found. All patients underwent an uneventful surgery. Graft orientation was evaluated in all cases. We found no differences in surgical time and unfolding time with other surgeries performed with a regular surgical microscope
Conclusions:
Intraoperative OCT might be useful to help surgeons during DMEK procedures. Improvement in this technology as well as the training of the surgeons to use it during lamellar transplants may improve results
