Abstract Details
Purpose:
To investigate the feature of tear lipid layer in Orthokeratology-wear children after 1-month treatment.
Setting:
Eye nad ENT Hospital of Fudan University, Shanghai, China
Methods:
163 eyes of 163 children with no contact lens history were enrolled (age ranges from 8 to 15 years old, at an average of 10.67±1.88years, 71 males and 92 females). Lipid layer thickness (LLT) of tear film in all eyes at baseline were non-invasively measured by Lipiview interferometer. Over-night orthokeratology treatment was given to all eyes. Lipid layer thickness was measured after 1 week and after 1month, respectively. Pearson and Spearman correlation analysed the correlation between LLT and age, and correlation between LLT and sex, respectively. Single factor repeated measure ANOVA analysed the change of LLT after orthokeratology treatment.
Results:
At baseline, the thickness of lipid layer showed to be associated with age (p<0.05), while not statistically associated with sex (p>0.05). Statistically significant difference was found between lipid layer thickness values at baseline, at 1 week and at 1 month (p=0.028). LSD pairwise comparison suggested that 1-week result and 1-month result had significant difference with baseline (p<0.05), respectively, however 1-week and 1-month results had no statistical difference.
Conclusions:
Level of lipid layer thickness of children was related with age. Lipid layer thickness showed to be elevated after short-term over-night orthokeratology treatment, however, further researches were needed to clarify the mechanism of it.
