Abstract Details
Purpose:
To show that the limbal demoid is a benign evolution and common lesion but a complete and attentive examination of any child carrying such a malformation is necessary, because it can detect a syndrome malformation sometimes more complex: the Goldenhar syndrom. We report two rare cases of this syndrom.
Setting:
Hospital Ibn Sina of Rabat, Ophtalmology A.
Methods:
The patients were referred to our department and we performed complete ophthalmologic evaluations, including a slit-lamp examination her, fundus examination and photography, anterior segment photography, a refraction and general examination.
Results:
A 19-year-old woman with a bilateral limbal dermoid and dermoid tumors of conjunctival sac in both eyes. We found also upper and lower palpebral dermolipomas. The general examination revealed two cutaneous diverticula on the right and left ears. The procedure under local anesthesia limited to a simple resection with a good clinical evolution.
The second case was 2 years old with limbal dermoid non-astigmatogen on the left eye. The general assessment found a polymalformative syndrome associating psychomotor retardation, hypoplasia of the left ear flag associated with auricular cutaneous appendages and a retrognathism.
Conclusions:
The limbal dermoid is a lesion with simple diagnosis and benign evolution. However, in front of any dermoids of the limb, we have to examine the aspect of the massive face, to look carefully for the peri-auricular, vertebral and costal lesions which can be associated with a goldenhar syndrom.
