Abstract Details
Purpose:
To report the outcomes of using OmniLenz in the management of persistent corneal epithelial defects (PED) of various etiologies.
Setting:
Corneoplastic Unit and eye Bank, Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, The United Kingdom
Methods:
A retrospective study of 30 eyes with PED between 10/2017 to 01/2019 at a single centre (Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead) in the United Kingdom, all treated with OmniLenz. Data collected included patients’ demographics, PED etiology and duration, time to healing and best corrected visual acuity before and after application of OmniLenz. were recorded. All results were statistically Analysed.
Results:
Thirty eyes of 30 patients (56% males, 44 %females) age range 7 to 92 years were treated by Omni-lenz. Eleven eyes required more than one application of OmniLenz during the course of their disease. Thirty two percent of the eyes showed complete healing (range 3-40 days), and 38% showed partial decrease of the size of PED. Only 15% of eyes showed worsening of visual acuity.
Conclusions:
OmniLenz is easily applied in the clinical setting for eyes with PED. Its transparency allows for easy visualization and examination of the cornea. Its use has demonstrated the efficiency of a new tool available to treat PED.
