Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report a case of isolated corneal intraepithelial neoplasia treated successfully with topical interferon alfa 2B, with more than 1 year follow up.

Setting:

Cornea and Ocular Surface Unit, Ophthalmology Department, Vall d'Hebron Hospital, Barcelona, Spain.

Methods:

We submit the HR-AS-OCT and biomicroscopic images of the lesion, its evolution under topical interferon alfa 2B and the anatomo-pathology study.

Results:

Interferon alfa2B was able to solve the corneal lesion with no recurrence 1 year after treatment and HR-AS-OCT allowed us to discover the imperceptible connection between the corneal lesion and the limbus, and how it progressively dicreased with ongoing treatment.

Conclusions:

The non invasive optical biopsy made by HR-AS-OCT of these lesions may change our current theories by demonstrating an, otherwise invisible, link of these, apparently isolated corneal lesions, to the limbus.
