Results of combined MIGS with XEN implants and phacoemulsification surgery

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To Evaluate results combined XEN glaucoma implant and phacoemulsification surgery efficiency, reliability and complications as a  combined minimal invasive glaucoma surgery,

Setting:

Retrospective chart review

Methods:

Thirty eyes of 30 Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG) patients with senil cataract who have glaucoma with full glaucoma medical treatment  or unable to use glaucoma medication (with allergies,ocular or surface disease) underwent combined XEN glaucoma implant and phacoemulsification surgery and the patients with at least 3 months follow-up, included to the study. Independent sample-t test was applied to compare the mean IOPs.

Results:

Mean age was 67,50± (55-82 years). Female/male ratio was 8/ 22 (36,3/63,7 %), Preoperative mean intra ocular pressure (IOP) was 23,6±3,4 (18-33 mmHg) and mean number of glaucoma medication  was 3,7 ±0,4 (3-4 medication). Postoperative mean IOP at 1, 3 and 6 months were respectively, 13,29±7,08 (2-21 mmHg), 15,21±5,8 (10-18 mmHg), 14,8±3,9 (8-17 mmHg) (p<0,01). Postoperative mean number of  glaucoma medications were 0,68±1,1 (0-3 med.), 0,75±1,3 (0-3 med.), 2,1±1,3 (0-3 med.) respectively at 1, 3 and 6 months. (p<0,01).  Mean follow-up period was11,06±6,7 (3-24 months) Mean IOP at last visit was 14,25±4.3 mmHg.

Conclusions:

The results of combined XEN glaucoma implant and phacoemulsification surgery are efficient and reliable in terms of IOP control and postoperative complication but should be followed  with close follows.
