44-year asymptomatic intralenticular foreign body

Abstract Details

Purpose:

Case report of asymptomatic intralenticular metallic foreign body, that was retained intralenticular for 44 years.

Setting:

Gemini Eye Clinic, Prague, Czech Republic

Methods:

A 74-year-old man was sent for cataract surgery with BCVA 0,5 . The man suffered right eye injury in 1974, when he beat hammer on metal. The foreign body penetrated cornea, iris, anterior capsule and stay in crystalline lens. Posterior capsule was intact.

Results:

We performed continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis, phacoemulsification with extraction foreign body by microforceps, irigoaspiration and intraocular lens implantation. His postoperative VA improved to 1,0.

Conclusions:

In this case, long term intralenticular metallic foreign body under anterior capsule of the lens had been able to stay in the eye without causing traumatic cataract and inflammation. No financial disclosure
